Emergency CUSD Board Policy regarding distance learning grading for the fourth quarter
Posted 5/28/20

Dear Families:

As we come to the end of the school year, I wanted to clarify the emergency CUSD Board Policy regarding distance learning grading for the fourth quarter. On April 29, 2020, the Capistrano Unified School District Trustees approved a hybrid policy where students will only receive a letter grade of A, B, or C, a “CR” mark indicating credit for a class, or a “NC” mark indicating no credit for a class.

Teachers will compare a student’s fourth quarter grade to their third quarter and use the guidelines listed below to issue final grades for fourth quarter. If the student or parent would like the teacher to consider a letter grade and/or a “CR” they should consult with the teacher.  Teachers will share preliminary fourth quarter grades with students no later than May 29, 2020.

  • If a student’s grade went up or stayed the same the student will receive that letter grade of A, B, or C as a fourth quarter grade.
  • If a student’s grade drops, the student and teacher will consult to determine next steps and options for a credit “CR” if available.
  • If a student was failing at the end of third quarter and their fourth quarter grade is still failing they will receive a no credit “NC.”

Both the credit “CR” and no credit “NC” marks will not calculate into a student’s GPA.  Please see the chart below for specific situations regarding grades:
